Not medical advice
Macrocellar is a general wellness tool for tracking food and weight. It does not diagnose, treat or prevent any disease and is not a medical device. Calorie and macro targets are estimates from standard formulas, and food data can contain errors. Nothing in the app, on our website or from a coach replaces advice from a doctor, registered dietitian or other qualified health professional.
Talk to a doctor first if you…
- are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding;
- have diabetes, kidney, liver or heart disease, or another medical condition;
- take medication affected by diet (for example insulin or blood thinners);
- have, or have had, an eating disorder or a difficult relationship with food;
- are under 18: please also talk to a parent or carer before setting a weight-loss goal;
- plan to lose weight quickly or eat much less than usual.
Our safety limits
Suggested calorie targets never go below 1,200 kcal a day for women and 1,500 for men, and suggested weight loss is limited to 1 kg a week. These limits are a safety net, not a recommendation to eat that little.
Eating disorder support
If tracking food makes you anxious, or you’re worried about your eating, it’s okay to stop. You can turn off reminders and streaks in Settings → Notifications, or delete your account. Support is available:
- UK: Beat, the UK’s eating disorder charity, beateatingdisorders.org.uk, helpline 0808 801 0677. Or speak to your GP.
- USA: ANAD helpline 1-888-375-7767, anad.org.
- In a crisis: call 999 (UK) or 911 (US), or Samaritans on 116 123 (UK and Ireland, free, 24/7).
Allergies and food data
Always check the label. Food data in Macrocellar comes from public databases and other members and may be wrong or out of date. Never rely on Macrocellar to tell you whether a food is safe for an allergy or intolerance.
Coaches
Coaches are independent and aren’t doctors unless they tell you otherwise. If a coach’s advice doesn’t feel right for your health, check with a professional, and remember you can leave a coach at any time.
